Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center and Great Park Ice Join Honda Center in Achieving GBAC Star™ Facility Accreditation
Dec. 18, 2020
The Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) has awarded STAR™ facility accreditation to Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) and Great Park Ice. The gold standard for prepared facilities, GBAC is a division of ISSA. The two facilities join Honda Center, home of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, in receiving the industry’s highest-level outbreak prevention, response, and recovery accreditation. Under the guidance of GBAC, ARTIC and Great Park Ice have implemented the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention at their facilities.
“As California’s largest ice facility, we strive for accreditations and achievements that assist us in providing a safe and clean facility for the community,” said Art Trottier, Vice President of Great Park Ice. “Aligned with our priority of the health and safety of all athletes, coaches, visitors, and staff – we are proud to earn the GBAC STAR accreditation.”
To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, the facilities are required to demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures. “Essential workers have been the unsung heroes of this pandemic, putting themselves at risk to serve our community and provide for their families. Many of these workers rely on our public transit system,” said Tom Morton, executive director of Anaheim Convention, Sports and Entertainment. “Thanks to Anaheim’s strong partnership with Anaheim Transportation Center Management, we’ve been able to achieve the highest level of preparedness accreditation for the ARTIC transit center. With this, we’re assuring transit riders can visit ARTIC without feeling any added concern for their health or safety.”
As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR™ helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s readiness for biorisk situations. The program verifies that ARTIC and Great Park Ice implement best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.
“GBAC STAR accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments,” said GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger. “By taking this important step to pursue GBAC STAR, ARTIC and Great Park Ice have received third-party validation that they follow strict protocols for biorisk situations, thereby demonstrating their preparedness and commitment to operating safely.”
